Concrete Safety Tips
- Concrete is a very safe material to use. However, the cement it contains is caustic when wet and can cause irritation or in rare cases burns with prolonged skin contact.
- For protection, wear old clothing, keeping arms and legs well covered, water-proof gloves and safety boots. Kneepads, which can be homemade, may be useful too. Wash thoroughly with clean water as soon as there is any direct contact with the skin. Remove clothing which becomes saturated immediately. If there is persistent irritation or pain, you should consult a doctor.
- Keep pets and children well away from the site until the concrete has hardened.
- Avoid concrete from free falling heights greater than 1m (3 feet) as this may influence segregation of the concrete.
- Try to avoid laying concrete out-of-doors in rainy or very windy or hot weather, as these conditions affect the hardening processes and rain affects the surface finish. Ask your sales representative how much notice he will require for postponement of delivery.
- Readymix will guarantee the concrete they deliver within British and American Standard Specifications but we rely on you to give our sales staff detailed and accurate information about the nature of your requirements, so you get the right specification for the job and the right quantity. We cannot undertake to remove any excess concrete unused by the customer.
- The smallest quantity of Readymix which our representative will deliver is one cubic metre. For smaller jobs around the home we suggest you use Readymix Aggregates (½ & ½), which you can obtain from our quarry and cement from most good hardware dealers.
